Mumbai. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 124 capsules filled with cocaine from a Brazilian woman which she swallowed before landing at Mumbai International Airport, an official said on Sunday. The seized drugs are worth Rs 9.73 crore. An official of the DRI Mumbai regional unit said that the woman was stopped on Wednesday as soon as she landed from Sao Paulo on the basis of a tip-off.
The arrested woman admitted that she had swallowed capsules containing drugs and was bringing them to smuggle into India.
The woman was produced before a magistrate and admitted to the government JJ Hospital. The officer said, “The 124 capsules recovered from the woman contained 973 grams of cocaine, which is worth Rs 9.73 crore. Initial investigation has revealed the substance to be cocaine. The drug was seized on Saturday under the provisions of the NDPS Act.” The officer said that the passenger has been arrested and further investigation is underway to trace other members of the international drug gang.
