India ranks third in terms of earnings for Netflix due to ‘Heeramandi’, ‘Chamkila’

New Delhi. India ranked third in terms of revenue for Netflix, thanks to popular webseries and films like ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ and ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’. Netflix released its second quarter earnings data for 2024 on Thursday evening, which shows that Indian webseries and shows achieved significant success this year along with ‘Bridgerton 3’, ‘Baby Reindeer’, Korean drama ‘Queen of Tears’ and films like ‘Hit Man’ and ‘Under Paris’.

According to the OTT platform, this year India and Britain emerged faster than other countries in terms of earnings for Netflix. In the second quarter, India ranked second and third respectively in terms of advertisements and revenue growth. The success of web series like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Hiramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ was behind the earnings from India. ‘Hiramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ was viewed 1.5 crore times, making it the most viewed Indian web series on Netflix till date.

Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ was viewed 83 lakh times, followed by Kiran Rao’s ‘Missing Ladies’ and Ajay Devgan’s ‘Shaitan’. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said, “India’s success is a story that we are seeing happening almost uniformly all over the world.”
