New Delhi: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and his family have topped the Hurun 2024 India’s Rich List, with their wealth rising by 95 per cent to over Rs 11.61 lakh crore.
According to the Hurun Rich List of India, the number of billionaires across the country has increased manifold. Now there are 334 Indian billionaires, which is six times more than the number of billionaires when the list was started 13 years ago.
In this list of rich people, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family have got the second position, and their total wealth is estimated at Rs. 10.14 lakh crore.
1539 Indians have assets worth more than Rs 1000 crore
This year, there are 1,539 people in the Hurun India list whose total wealth is more than Rs 1,000 crore. This number is 220 more than last time, and there are 272 people in this list whose name has been included in the list for the first time. The number of people with assets worth more than Rs 1,000 crore has crossed the 1,500 mark for the first time, and it has increased by 86 percent in the last five years. During the last year, a new billionaire has been created in India every five days.
Shahrukh Khan also got a place among the rich
Shahrukh Khan, known as the ‘Badshah’ of the Indian film industry, has made it to the Hurun India Rich List for the first time, and his total wealth has been estimated at Rs 7,300 crore. Apart from Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and her family, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar and Amitabh Bachchan from the film industry have also managed to make it to the Hurun India Rich List.
This year’s list has 18 people whose total wealth is more than Rs 1 lakh crore. Last year this number was only 12, and a decade ago there were only two people in the list whose wealth was more than Rs 1 lakh crore.
The total wealth of Indian rich people is more than half of India’s GDP
The total wealth of the Hurun India Rich List has risen to Rs 159 lakh crore, which is more than the combined GDP of Saudi Arabia and Switzerland, and more than half of India’s GDP.
The people included in the Hurun India list are from a total of 29 industries and 42 cities. Of these, 1,334 have increased their wealth, 272 are new faces, 205 have seen a decline in their wealth, 45 names have disappeared from the list, and five have passed away.
The richest people live in Mumbai
Mumbai has the highest number of 386 rich people in the list. Delhi is in second place with 217 names, and Hyderabad is in third place with 104 rich people. 66 new names have been added to the list from Mumbai this year.
79-year-old Shiv Nadar is third on the list with a net worth of Rs 3.1 lakh crore, thanks to a 50 per cent rise in HCL’s share price. 45-year-old Anand Chandrasekaran, with a net worth of Rs 1,200 crore, is the first angel investor to be featured in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List. The youngest billionaires on the list are Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar (both 33 years old), founders of RAZORPAY, a payment solution app.
