BJP, JD(S) workers tried to surround CM’s residence

The Uncut

Bengaluru: Karnataka opposition parties Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and JD(S) on Wednesday attempted to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here, intensifying their demand for his resignation following the High Court verdict in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) tried to march towards the Cauvery but the police foiled their attempt. The police detained them as a precautionary measure and took them away in a bus.

Leaders and workers of JD(S), a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) headed by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, tried to march towards “Cauvery” by staging a protest at Freedom Park here but were stopped by the police.

The High Court on Tuesday upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval for a probe against Siddaramaiah for alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 plots by MUDA to his wife B.M. Parvathi.

The court had dismissed Siddaramaiah’s plea challenging the validity of the August 16 order of the Governor approving the probe under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988.
