New Delhi. When Delhi Police constable Sandeep approached a car and scolded two persons sitting in it for drinking alcohol on the road, the police personnel had no idea of his intention. According to the FIR, accused Rajneesh alias Sittu told Dharmendra alias Bhandre, who was driving the car, “Bhandre, run the car over Sandeep and end it here.” According to the FIR registered in the case, they were waiting for the constable to come very close.
The FIR states that Dharmendra accelerated the car and hit Sandeep’s motorcycle from behind and dragged him for some distance. Then the vehicle hit a parked car and the constable was crushed between the two cars. A copy of the FIR is with ‘PTI-Bhasha’. This gruesome incident was recorded in the CCTV camera. The incident occurred near Veena Enclave in the early hours of Sunday when 30-year-old Sandeep was going from Nangloi police station towards Railway Road while on duty in plain clothes.
While Sandeep was on duty, he met his colleagues constables Khushi Ram and Sachin, who were returning home after duty.
Ram said in the FIR, “We saw him (Sandeep) in plain clothes on a bike. I asked him about his duty and he told us that he was on duty in plain clothes on the instructions of his SHO (SHO) as incidents of theft had increased in his beat area. According to the HC FIR, when the three were at Nangloi Railway When he started moving towards the road, he saw a white WagonR car parked near a government school and two people in it were drinking alcohol.
Ram said in the FIR, “We identified a person as Dharmendra alias Bhandre, who lives in Veena Enclave. Since I was earlier posted at Nangloi police station, I knew Dharmendra.” When Sandeep objected to both of them drinking alcohol on the road, Dharmendra shouted, “You are interfering in our personal matter. How dare you?” Sandeep asked Dharmendra and Rajneesh to come to the police station but both of them started going towards Nangloi railway station in their car. Sandeep chased him on his motorcycle. Ram and Sachin also followed him.
After reaching near Jat Dharamshala, Dharmendra slowed down the car and started waiting for the three policemen to approach.
Sandeep reached near the car and asked the accused to stop the car, but Dharmendra hit Sandeep’s motorcycle with his car and moved away, dragging it with him. Dharmendra stopped dragging Sandeep only when his car collided with another car.
Ram and Sachin ran to save Sandeep, but Dharmendra managed to escape leaving the car. It has been said in the FIR that Rajneesh was caught from the spot. Ram and Sachin took Sandeep to Sonia Hospital, from where he was referred to Balaji Action Hospital, but he was declared dead.
When the two constables were taking Sandeep to Sonia Hospital, Rajneesh escaped by dodging them, but was caught by the police on Monday. Outer Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jimmy Chiram said that Rajneesh has been interrogated and efforts are being made to nab Dharmendra.
A senior police officer said that they are also trying to find out whether the accused have any connection with the liquor smugglers of the area. He said that this will become clear only after the arrest of the main accused Dharmendra. Police said that the car used by the two accused does not belong to any of them and the car owner is also being interrogated.
Constable Sandeep of the year 2018 batch was a native of Rohtak, Haryana. His family consists of his mother, wife and five year old son. Sandeep’s body was handed over to his family. Senior officers of Delhi Police reached his house to pay tribute. Delhi Police said in a post on ‘X’ that it is with the bereaved family in this difficult time.
