Bengaluru: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday expressed hope that his party will form the government in Haryana and will also win in Jammu and Kashmir with its ally National Conference. The results of the assembly elections of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir will be declared on Tuesday.
Kharge told reporters here, “Earlier also we had said that Congress government will be formed in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. An alliance of Congress and National Conference will form the government in Jammu and Kashmir and Congress will form the government in Haryana.
Many exit polls have predicted a clear majority for the Congress in Haryana and an edge for its alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir. Voting was held in one phase in Haryana last October, while in Jammu and Kashmir, voting was held in three phases on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October. Elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2019 after a gap of 10 years and bifurcation of the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
When asked about the demand of Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi to conduct caste census at the national level, Kharge said, “We had also said during the Lok Sabha elections that further action will have to be taken after taking opinion from all the states.” ”
