The unexpected defeat of Congress in Haryana is a surprise for its strategists because they were assuming victory as certain and were hoping that after the victory in Haryana, the position of Congress would be better in the assembly elections of Maharashtra and Jharkhand, whereas in front of its allies, His position will also become stronger than before. Congress’s defeat in Haryana is being considered as a blow to its prospects in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, although the party says that one election result cannot be compared with another.
Pawan Khera, head of the party’s media department, said, “You saw how good our performance was in Haryana in the Lok Sabha elections. “One should never compare one result with another.” He said, “If anyone thinks that he can snatch victory from our hands, he will get an answer in the coming elections.” Political experts believe that after the defeat in Haryana, Congress’s position in coordinating seats with allies in states like Maharashtra and Jharkhand may now weaken. Assembly elections are likely to be held in both these states in November.
In the wake of Congress’s defeat in Haryana, its Maharashtra ally Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said sarcastically that the country’s main opposition party becomes weak in a direct contest against the BJP. These days, talks are going on in Maharashtra regarding seat sharing between Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Nationalist Congress Party (SP).
Shiv Sena (UBT), along with its big role in seat distribution, is also insisting on declaring the Chief Minister’s face first on behalf of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). At the same time, after emerging as the largest component of MVA in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress was expecting a bigger share in the seat sharing in the assembly elections also. Congress’s position may also get weakened due to seat sharing with JMM in Jharkhand assembly elections and with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh assembly by-elections. The results of Haryana have also exposed the internal factionalism of the party as a weak link of the Congress.
