NABARD approves financial assistance of Rs 770 crore for two irrigation projects in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Financial assistance of Rs 770 crore has been approved for the construction of two irrigation projects in Jharkhand. National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) gave this information on Saturday. These projects have been approved for the financial year 2024-25 under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).

Chief General Manager of NABARD’s regional office in Jharkhand, S.K. Jahagirdar said, “NABARD has approved financial assistance of Rs 769.58 crore for the construction of two irrigation projects in Palamu and Giridih districts under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund for the financial year 2024-25.” After the completion of this irrigation project, 11,000 hectares of additional land will be irrigated through pipelines in eight blocks of Palamu.

This irrigation project in Giridih will cover 165 villages out of 197 villages in Pirtand block, making 10,158 hectares of land suitable for farming. According to NABARD, both the projects are likely to significantly increase agriculture-related work in these districts.

This financial assistance has been provided by NABARD at a time when Jharkhand is preparing for the assembly elections to be held later this year. The tenure of the Jharkhand Assembly, which has a total of 81 members, is scheduled to end on January 5, 2025.

A statement issued by the bank said, with the approval of this financial assistance, an assistance of Rs 1,017 crore has been provided to Jharkhand under RIDF during the financial year 2024-25. The assistance provided to Jharkhand since the inception of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund now stands at approximately Rs 24,300 crore.
