Tripura Rifles soldier shoots himself while on duty in Korba

Korba: A Tripura Rifles soldier posted at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in Korba district of Chhattisgarh committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. Officials gave this information on Saturday.

Officials said that Tripura Rifles soldier Azad Singh, deployed for security at SECL’s Kusmunda project operated under the public sector company Coal India, has committed suicide by shooting himself with his AK-47 rifle.

SECL Public Relations Officer Sanish Chandra said that information has been received that Singh was under stress for some time due to family dispute. On Friday his duty was in the mine. At around 10 pm, Singh shot himself in the chest with his service rifle.

Chandra said that when other soldiers deployed in the mine heard the sound of gunshot, they came near Singh and came to know about the incident. The official said that information about the incident has been given to the police and higher officials of SECL.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Korba district Neha Verma said that the soldier was a resident of Rajasthan. Information has been received that he had some dispute with his wife, who is currently in Rajasthan. Verma said that the family has been informed about the incident. Police have registered the case and started investigation.
