Himanta criticizes Congress for raising questions on citizenship of BJP candidate

The Uncut

Palonghat. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Tuesday criticized the Congress for raising questions on the citizenship of the BJP candidate and said that questions can also be raised on the nationality of the opposition party’s top leader Sonia Gandhi. Congress has raised questions on the citizenship of BJP candidate Nihar Ranjan Das in its campaign in Dholai Assembly by-election.

Addressing a rally here, Sharma said, “If you (Congress) call Nihar Ranjan ‘Bangladeshi’, then I will also call Sonia Gandhi ‘Italian’. If you think that I am afraid of Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, then let me tell you that it is not so.” Earlier in the day, addressing a rally in Dholai, Sharma alleged that the Congress is not concerned about electoral victory or defeat and its only intention is to hinder the development of the state.

Addressing his first rally for the Dholai assembly by-election, Sharma said, “Congress has no issue in this election. He is not worried about winning or losing. They only want to hinder development. “They don’t want poor people to get government benefits.”
