Ranchi. Mandal Murmu, one of the election proposers of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has received death threats on social media after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). One person was detained in this case on Wednesday. Police gave this information. Soran has filed nomination for the assembly elections from Barhait assembly constituency.
Mandal Murmu, a descendant of Sido Murmu and Kanhu Murmu, who led the Santhal rebellion in 1855, joined the BJP on Sunday in Deoghar in the presence of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma. Dumka Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Kherwar told PTI, “Murmu was allegedly given death threats on the social media platform. “We have detained a person in this regard and his interrogation is ongoing.”
Sahibganj Deputy Commissioner Hemant Sati said, “As soon as we received information about the threat, we found out the whereabouts of the person. It was found out that he was a resident of Dumka district. We immediately informed Dumka police.” He said that security has also been provided to Murmu, a resident of Sahibganj district.
Earlier, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren had urged the police to take strict action against the person making the threat and ensure the safety of Murmu’s family. He posted on ‘X’, “This is the lowest level of politics. Such threats cannot be ignored. Jharkhand Police and Sahibganj Police are requested to take strict action against such people with criminal mentality. “Jharkhand Election Officer and Sahibganj Deputy Commissioner please make arrangements for the security of Mandal Murmu’s family.”
