Pune car accident: Court allows police to detain teen’s father in kidnapping case

Pune: A court in Pune, Maharashtra on Monday allowed the custody of Vishal Agarwal, father of a 17-year-old boy involved in a car accident, from Yerwada Central Jail in connection with the kidnapping and hostage taking of his driver.

Agarwal is in judicial custody and lodged in the central jail in a case registered under the Juvenile Justice Act against him and the managers and owners of two pubs. Pune police had filed an application for a production warrant of Vishal Agarwal in the kidnapping and hostage taking case.

“The court has allowed the juvenile’s father’s application for a production warrant and he will be taken into custody from jail,” a Pune police official said. Two IT professionals were killed when a speeding Porsche car, allegedly driven by a minor, hit their motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area of ​​Pune city on the morning of May 19. Police claim the juvenile was drunk at the time of the accident.

Police have also registered a case against Vishal Agarwal and his father Surendra Agarwal for holding their driver hostage. Police said both the teenager’s father and grandfather pressured the family driver to take the blame for the accident by offering money and threatening him. A case has been registered against both of them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
