The Prime Minister is now going to pick up his bag and leave: Congress

The Uncut

New Delhi. The Congress on Wednesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks on Mahatma Gandhi and alleged that those whose ideological forefathers were involved in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi along with Nathuram Godse can never follow the path of truth shown by Bapu.

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the Prime Minister is now going to “pick up a bag of lies and leave.” In an interview to news channel ‘ABP News’, Prime Minister Modi said that the world did not know much about Mahatma Gandhi until Richard Attenborough’s 1982 film ‘Gandhi’ was made. Regarding this comment of the Prime Minister, Kharge posted on ‘X’, “Those whose ideological ancestors were involved in the murder of Mahatma Gandhi along with Nathuram Godse, can never follow the path of truth shown by Bapu. Now he is going to pick up a bag of lies and leave.”

Rahul Gandhi in his post on ‘X’ took a dig at the fact that only a student of ‘Entire Political Science’ would need to watch the film to know about Mahatma Gandhi. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that Prime Minister Modi has destroyed Gandhi’s legacy.

He posted on ‘X’, “I don’t know in which world the outgoing Prime Minister lives where Mahatma Gandhi was not recognised worldwide before 1982. If anyone has destroyed the legacy of the Mahatma, it is the outgoing Prime Minister himself. His own government destroyed Gandhian institutions in Varanasi, Delhi and Ahmedabad.”

Ramesh said, “This is the identity of RSS workers that they do not know the nationalism of Mahatma Gandhi. The environment created by their ideology was the reason why Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji.” He claimed, “The election of 2024 has been fought between Mahatma bhakt and Godse bhakt. The defeat of the outgoing Prime Minister and his Godse bhakt companions is obvious.”

Last 10 years proved to be ‘era of injustice’ for Indian Railways: Congress

Congress on Wednesday alleged that the last 10 years have proved to be an ‘era of injustice’ for Indian Railways and the Modi government has ruined the railways. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also claimed that if the ‘India’ alliance government is formed at the Centre, the railways will once again become a transport service giving priority to the common man.

Ramesh posted on ‘X’ referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Balasore, Odisha, “Today the Prime Minister went to Balasore district of Odisha for election campaign. Remember, a year ago, on June 2, 2023, one of the biggest train accidents of India took place here today. On this unfortunate occasion, let us see (how) the Modi government has ruined the Indian Railways in the last ten years of injustice.”

He claimed, “Where did the railways waste so much money despite increasing prices and providing poor service? The short answer is – wasteful expenditure, slow development, cost overruns and delays.” Ramesh says, “According to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the things on which Rs 3,000 crore was spent could have been avoided. In simple words, this taxpayers’ money was wasted.”

Congress demands ban on telecast of PM’s meditation at ‘Rock Memorial’

The Congress on Wednesday urged the Election Commission to ban the telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation programme at the Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari during the silence period before polling in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections as it was a violation of the model code of conduct.

A delegation of party leaders met the top officials of the commission and urged them to take action on this issue and some other issues. This delegation included Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Randeep Surjewala and Syed Nasir Hussain.
Singhvi said that Congress does not object to the PM’s meditation but to it happening during the quiet period of the elections. PM Modi will meditate at the ‘Rock Memorial’ built to pay tribute to Swami Vivekananda in Kanyakumari after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election campaign on May 30. Voting for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections is on June 1.

Singhvi told reporters, “No leader can campaign directly or indirectly during the silence period. We have no objection to any leader’s campaigning and observing a silent fast, but there should be no election campaigning during the silence period.” He said, “The Prime Minister has made an announcement during the silence period which is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.”
