E-rickshaw driver raped a woman after giving her intoxicants, accused arrested

New Delhi. A case has come to light in the national capital where an e-rickshaw driver allegedly drugged a 25-year-old woman and raped her. Police gave this information on Thursday. Police said that the accused Mohammad Umar (24) has been arrested from Kotwali area of ​​North Delhi in the case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena said, “On May 26, the Kotwali police station received a PCR call about a robbery incident, after which the police team reached the spot. The woman was found injured and bleeding. The woman’s three-year-old son was sitting next to her.” He said that the woman originally hails from Bihar and was immediately taken to the hospital and medical examination was done. According to the police, the woman was going from Bihar to Punjab to meet her husband with her three-year-old son.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that on May 26, the woman got off the train at New Delhi Railway Station and went to Sadar Bazar. When she was returning from Sadar Bazar to the railway station, an e-rickshaw driver allegedly offered her a drink, after drinking which she fell unconscious.
Meena said, “According to the woman’s statement, the rickshaw driver took her to a secluded place and raped her. When the woman objected and started making noise, the rickshaw driver attacked her on the head with a brick.”

He said, “The woman fainted due to the attack and when she regained consciousness, she found that her mobile phone and three thousand rupees were missing.” Meena said, “We formed a team and started investigating the case. The team examined the pictures of about 500 CCTV cameras and traced the e-rickshaw.” He said that a campaign was launched to identify and arrest the accused and about 150 e-rickshaw drivers were questioned.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Umar was arrested on May 29 and the woman’s mobile phone and the e-rickshaw used in the crime have been recovered. He said that Umar was earlier also involved in robbery cases. Meena said that the police have registered an FIR under various sections including Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the case.
