BJP will not return to power at the Centre for the third time: Mamata Banerjee

The Uncut

Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not return to power for the third consecutive time. Addressing the people during a 12-km long roadshow in Jadavpur and South Kolkata Lok Sabha constituencies, Banerjee said, “If the counting process is done properly, there is a possibility that the BJP will not be able to return to power this time.”

She said, “The post of Prime Minister has a special importance and it has constitutional responsibilities, but they (BJP) do not care about it. Every time before the counting of votes, he sits somewhere for 48 hours to get publicity. He can meditate, but why in the presence of cameras?” Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress chief, was referring to the meditation program scheduled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election campaign on Thursday. After campaigning in the last Lok Sabha election, Modi had meditated in a cave near Kedarnath.

Banerjee had said on Wednesday that her party Trinamool Congress would complain to the Election Commission if Prime Minister Modi’s meditation in Kanyakumari was telecast on television. She had alleged that doing so would be a violation of the model code of conduct. A large number of people were walking with party flags in Banerjee’s road show. Mamata Banerjee waved to the crowd all the way and sometimes greeted them with folded hands. With this road show, Banerjee ended her Lok Sabha election campaign and during this time she addressed the people in 107 meetings and road shows.
