Imphal: Heavy rains in the last few days due to the impact of cyclone ‘Remal’ led to waterlogging in the Raj Bhavan complex of Manipur, officials said on Friday. They said three people have died and thousands have been affected due to floods caused by heavy rains in the Imphal valley.

A senior official said that water accumulated in the Raj Bhawan premises after the embankment of the Imphal river broke at various places. He said that the condition of the Raj Bhawan has improved a lot as compared to the last two days.

Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Ningombam Bupendra shared photos on Instagram and wrote, “Raj Bhawan is drowning in floodwaters. It is rare to see the Governor of Manipur personally checking the water level at Raj Bhawan.” Due to unprecedented floods in Imphal, a large area of ​​it is submerged in water. He said that the flood level needs to be reduced rapidly.

Reacting to Bupendar’s post, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ‘X’ and said, “And the outgoing Prime Minister is in deep meditation.” The Prime Minister started meditating at Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu on the evening of May 30 and his meditation process is scheduled to be completed on the evening of June 1.

Manipur Water Resources and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Awangbou Newmai on Thursday evening said a total of 1,88,143 people were affected by the floods in the northeastern state, while at least 24,265 houses were damaged.
The government on Thursday declared a two-day public holiday in all state offices till May 31 in view of the massive floods caused by breaches in river embankments.
