New Delhi. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday said she is hopeful that the actual results of the Lok Sabha elections will be completely opposite to the predictions of the exit polls. “We have to wait. Just wait and watch,” Sonia told PTI Video here. “We are hopeful that the results will be completely opposite to what is being shown in the exit polls,” she said. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi was asked what she expected from the results to be announced on June 4. She made this comment after paying tribute to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on his 100th birth anniversary at the DMK office.
Most exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha elections. Most surveys have predicted that the NDA will win more than 350 seats. If the actual results are as per the exit poll predictions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take power with a big majority for the third consecutive time. Congress and other constituents of the India Alliance have rejected the exit polls and claimed that the opposition alliance will form the next government.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday, “It is not called an exit poll but it is called ‘Modi Media Poll’. This is Modi ji’s poll, this is his ‘fantasy poll’.” Congress leaders have said that the ‘India’ alliance will win more than 295 seats and form the government.
Speaking at a function organised to mark Karunanidhi’s 100th birth anniversary, Sonia Gandhi said, “It is a pleasure for me to be here with my DMK colleagues on the auspicious occasion of Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s 100th birth anniversary.” She said, “I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions, listening to him and benefiting from his wise words and advice. I consider myself fortunate that I met him.”
