New Delhi. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday that the ‘East India Company’ may have ended long ago, but the fear it had created is visible again today and a new generation of monopolists has taken its place. Have taken it. He also said that the “New Deal” for progressive Indian business is an idea whose time has come. To overcome the economic Great Depression between 1933 and 1938, the then US President Roosevelt had announced an action plan called “New Deal”, under which many social liberal policies were implemented.
Rahul Gandhi said in an article written in the Hindi newspaper “Dainik Jagran”, “The East India Company had crushed the voice of India. He crushed this voice not with his business power, but with his grip.” He said, “We did not lose our freedom to any other country, we lost it to a monopolistic corporation that ran the system of oppression in our country. The company had ended the competition. She was the one who started deciding who could sell what and to whom.”
The Congress leader said, “All I know is that the company had acquired a monopoly on opium cultivation in one area and had developed a market for drug addicts in another area. “While the company was plundering India, it was being portrayed as a model corporate body in Britain.” He claimed that the East India Company may have ended hundreds of years ago, but the fear it had created is visible again today.
According to Rahul Gandhi, “A new generation of monopolists has taken its place. As a result, while inequality and injustice is increasing for everyone in India, this class is busy accumulating immense wealth. Our institutions no longer belong to our people. “They follow the orders of the monopolists.” He claimed that today lakhs of businesses have been destroyed and India is unable to create employment opportunities for the youth.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said, “Mother India is the mother of all her children. The monopoly of a few select people on its resources and power and the neglect of the Bahujans has deeply hurt it.” He said there are many wonderful and honest Indian businesses, from small businesses to giants, unlike monopolistic groups doing ‘match-fixing’, but people are silent and tolerating an oppressive system.
He said, “My politics has always been to protect the weak and voiceless people. Mahatma Gandhi’s words about protecting the last person standing in the queue are my inspiration.” Rahul Gandhi said, “In the line of business in which you are standing, you are the exploited and deprived one and hence the aim of my politics now is to provide you all that from which you have been deprived i.e. to provide fairness and equal opportunities.” He said that the government can never be allowed to support only one business at the expense of others.
Rahul Gandhi said, “Government agencies are not a weapon to attack and intimidate business. I do not mean that the fear and pressure that has been created on you should be transferred to the big capitalists. They are not bad people. They should also get a place, just like you should too. This country is for all of us.” He also said, “I believe that the New Deal is an idea whose time has come for progressive Indian business.”
