A tempo traveler slipped off the road and fell into the Alaknanda river in Rudraprayag, 18 people injured

Rudraprayag: Eighteen people were injured when a tempo-traveller skidded off the road and fell into the Alaknanda river near Raitoli village on the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand on Saturday.

Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that the accident occurred around 11 am. There were 23 passengers including three crew members in the vehicle. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell about 250 meters down into the Alaknanda river.

He said that 18 people have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. He said that as soon as the information about the accident was received, relief and rescue teams reached the spot and started the operation. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep grief over the accident and directed the officials to provide better treatment to the injured.

The Chief Minister also said in a post on social media that the local administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team are engaged in relief and rescue operations and the injured have been admitted to the nearest medical center. In another post, the Chief Minister said that the seriously injured passengers are being sent to AIIMS Rishikesh by air.
