Barabanki. The accused of raping a minor girl in the Kotwali Nagar area of Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the police after an encounter. The accused was shot in the leg. A police officer gave this information on Sunday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chiranjeevi Nath Sinha said that on Saturday, in the Kotwali Nagar police station area, a 25-year-old youth had raped a minor girl from his neighbourhood, who was arrested on Saturday night itself.
ASP said that after registering an FIR against the accused Vijay alias Golu, a native of Kanpur Dehat district, under rape and other relevant sections including the POCSO Act, the police took him to the old sugar mill, under the Deva over bridge, to recover his clothes. During this, the accused opened fire on the police with a pistol hidden in the bushes.
Sinha said that in the retaliatory firing by the police team in self-defense, the accused Vijay alias Golu got shot in his left leg and got injured. The ASP said that the arrested accused Vijay alias Golu was sent to the hospital for treatment and a pistol and cartridges were recovered from his possession. Other legal action is being taken by the police.
