Bengaluru. Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa Ridh was arrested four months ago for the murder of his fan. Came out of jail on Wednesday after getting interim bail from Karnataka High Court to undergo bone surgery. Darshan (47) was arrested on June 11 in connection with Renukaswamy’s murder and was lodged in Bellary jail. Her friend Pavitra Gowda and 15 others are co-accused in the case.
Justice S. Vishwajit Shetty’s bench granted interim bail of six weeks to Darshan for his treatment. He was released from jail this evening after the jail authorities completed the formalities of obtaining the court order. The court has set some conditions, according to which he will have to submit his passport to the lower court along with a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties of the same amount.
The court said that he can get treatment in the hospital of his choice in Bengaluru. The court said that he will go to the hospital immediately after his release and undergo medical examination. According to the court, after this, a report given by the court will have to be submitted to this court within a week of the date of release of the actor, which will include the probable date of his surgery, the period of stay of the petitioner in the hospital for treatment and the subsequent follow-up. There will be information about treatment.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the government “respectfully welcomes” the High Court’s decision to grant interim bail to actor Darshan. Renukaswamy’s family did not comment on the decision to grant interim bail to Darshan, but said they have full faith in the judiciary and the police and that the culprits will be punished.
Renukaswamy’s father Kashinath Shivanagoudar told reporters in Davanagere, “The bail has been granted under the legal system, we cannot comment on it.” We have full confidence that the culprits will be punished. We have faith in law and police. (Darshan’s) treatment is a matter for the doctor, him and the court, we do not want to comment on it. We have nothing else to say except that the culprits should be punished, he said. We have faith in the law and judiciary, so we are confident that the culprits will be punished. H. Renukaswamy’s wife Sahana gave birth to a child on 16 October. She was five months pregnant when her husband was murdered.
After the news of Darshan getting interim bail, his fans celebrated in different parts of Karnataka. Darshan’s wife Vijayalakshmi performed special prayers at the Durgamma temple in the district headquarters city of Bellary. Waving posters of Darshan, hundreds of his fans distributed sweets and burst crackers in many areas of Bellary and Bengaluru.
While granting interim bail, the court has also imposed other conditions on Darshan. These include that he will not directly or indirectly threaten the prosecution witnesses or tamper with the evidence. He has also been asked to refrain from appearing in print, (electronic) media or on any social media platform to make any statement on any issue including his health condition during the period of interim bail.
The court had on Tuesday reserved the order on the interim bail plea after hearing the detailed arguments of senior advocate CV Nagesh and public prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar, appearing for the actor. The state government had presented the medical reports of the doctors of Bellary Central Jail and the head of the neurology department of a government hospital there in a sealed cover. The sessions court had rejected Darshan’s bail plea on September 21. After this he filed a petition in the High Court seeking interim bail for treatment.
According to the police, the actor’s fan Renukaswamy (33) had sent obscene messages to his friend Pavitra Gowda (co-accused), due to which Darshan allegedly murdered her when he was angry. His body was recovered from a drain next to an apartment in Sumanahalli here on June 9.
Raghavendra, an accused who was a part of Darshan’s ‘fan club’ in Chitradurga, had brought Renukaswamy here to RR Nagar under the guise of introducing him to the actor. Renukaswami was allegedly tortured there. According to the post mortem report, Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga, died due to multiple serious injuries. Police said accused number one Pavitra was the “prime reason” for the murder of Renukaswamy. He claimed that the investigation has proved that Pavitra instigated the other accused, conspired with them and participated in the crime.

Giving relief to actor Darshan, accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, the court granted him six weeks’ interim bail to undergo spinal surgery.
