Mumbai. Actor Govinda got injured on Tuesday due to accidental firing from his licensed revolver. Police said that the incident occurred when he was about to leave his home in Mumbai to go to the airport. A Mumbai Police official said that the condition of Govinda (60) is out of danger and he is being treated in a private hospital.
Govinda, who made a place in the hearts of the audience for his excellent comedy acting and dancing skills, later issued a statement informing fans that he is feeling better now. Govinda said in an audio message, “With the blessings of my fans, parents and God, I am feeling better now. I was hit by a bullet which has now been removed. I express my gratitude to Dr. Aggarwal who took care of me here. I thank everyone for their prayers.” An official said that Mumbai Police has increased security outside the actor’s Juhu residence.
The actor’s manager Shashi Sinha told that Govinda had to take a flight at 6 am for a program in Kolkata and he was about to leave his house at 4.45 am when the trigger of the licensed revolver was accidentally pressed while keeping it in the cupboard. Due to which the bullet was fired.
Police said that the bullet hit his leg.
Govinda’s brother Kirti Kumar told reporters here, “It was a strange incident. He was lucky to survive. Govinda was just placing his revolver, when by mistake the revolver slipped from his hand and a bullet was fired. Thankfully he reached the hospital on time. Now he is fine.” Kumar said, “Govinda’s operation was successful. Doctors say that his condition is improving and he will have to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days. But if he feels better, he can go home today itself.” Earlier, a police officer had said that Govinda has been discharged from the hospital and is resting at home.
Earlier, the actor was admitted to ‘Criticare Hospital’ near his Juhu residence for treatment in his injured condition.
Police said that no one has filed any complaint in the matter yet. Investigation into the matter has been started.
An officer said that the licensed revolver has been seized by the police officials for further investigation. He told that crime branch officials also met the actor in the hospital.
Govinda, one of the actors who ruled the film screens in the 1980s and 1990s, appeared in more than 165 Hindi films in a career spanning four decades. His famous films include “Ilja.am”, “Gambler”, “Aankhen”, “Raja Babu”, “Saajan Chale Sasural”, “Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan”, “Bhagam Bhaag” and “Partner”. He was last seen in “Rangeela Raja” in 2019.
In March, a month before the Lok Sabha elections, he had joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. He has returned to politics after almost two decades. He won the 2004 election contest from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket before distancing himself from politics in 2008.
