Chennai. Actress Kasthuri, who commented on the Telugu speaking people of Tamil Nadu, was produced in a court here on Sunday, from where she was sent to judicial custody. A Chennai Police team had arrested him from Hyderabad on November 16 after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court a few days ago.
However, immediately after the controversy, the actress withdrew her comment and also apologized, but in the meantime a police complaint was lodged against her. A team of Chennai Police arrested him from the house of a film producer in Hyderabad. He was brought to Chennai and produced before a magistrate court in Egmore, which sent him to judicial custody till November 29. Later he was kept in Puzhal Central Jail.
His recent allegation gave rise to a controversy, the gist of which was that some Telugu-speaking people who came to the state centuries ago to serve the then rulers are now claiming to be Tamils. According to the actress, people who follow a particular political ideology may call themselves Tamils despite being of Telugu origin, but do not consider Tamil Brahmins as Tamils. This is the reason why he chose the identity of ‘Dravidian’ for his ideology and could not choose ‘Tamil’.
