Amit Shah hits out at TMC government for “government sponsored infiltration” in Bengal

The Uncut

Kolkata. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress government of indulging in “state-sponsored infiltration” and corruption and claimed that cases like attacks on women in Sandeshkhali and rape-murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital were responsible. There is evidence that women are “not safe” in the state. Shah launched the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) membership drive in West Bengal and set a target of making one crore members in the state.

He said, “In Bengal, where Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore’s songs) used to be heard early in the morning, now the sounds of bombs are heard everywhere. Government sponsored infiltration continues in Bengal. Corruption is rampant in the recruitment process, health sector and ration, along with ‘cut money’ and organized gangs.” Shah said, “To get rid of this and create the Sonar Bangla (developed Bengal) of the dreams of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the people of Bengal need to form the BJP government in 2026.” Setting a target of “winning two-thirds of the seats” in the 2026 assembly elections in Bengal, he said that this ‘cut-money’ culture and corruption should end in West Bengal.

Shah mentioned the incidents of Sandeshkhali and RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In August, a female doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital. He said that these incidents show the lack of safety of women in West Bengal. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections this year, allegations of sexual harassment were made against TMC leaders in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district and it became an issue in the parliamentary elections in Bengal.

He said, “Women are not safe in Bengal. When BJP comes to power in 2026, incidents like Sandeshkhali and RG tax will stop.” Urging party members not to underestimate their influence in the state, Shah said, “Mamata didi should not think that just because we have got a few seats in Bengal, we are sitting idle.” BJP had set a target of winning more than 30 seats from Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections, but it won six less seats i.e. 12 seats compared to 2019. There are 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.

He said, “Don’t forget, we have reached 370 seats from two seats and have taken steps like removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. We have secured more than 50 percent of the votes in the state elections in 2024. We have won in Haryana and we will win in Jharkhand and Maharashtra also.” BJP leader Shah said, “After this, our next big goal in 2026 is to win in Bengal and form the next government with two-thirds majority.” This was Shah’s first visit to Bengal after the Lok Sabha elections in April-May and the RG tax incident. A female doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in RG Kar, following which protests broke out across the country.

The Union Home Minister also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and said that although the Congress party is celebrating its performance in this year’s Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has formed the government for the third consecutive time. Is.

Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi claimed in Parliament that he has defeated us in the elections and I do not understand why his colleagues do not explain to him that the one who wins takes oath as the Prime Minister and the one who loses. Sits on the opposition bench.” Responding to Shah’s allegations, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “Infiltration is a problem related to the international border, which is being guarded by BSF, a force under his ministry. Therefore, if infiltration is an issue, it is the failure of the Home Ministry and the central agencies responsible for border security.” Ghosh said Shah is seen as a “political tourist” in Bengal who has little influence on local politics. The TMC leader said, “He often comes before the elections and makes tall claims, but the election results tell a different story.”
