Arrogance and underestimating regional parties become fatal for Congress: Trinamool Congress MP

The Uncut

New Delhi. Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale, taking a jibe at Congress’s defeat and poor performance in the assembly elections, on Wednesday said that the tendency of not giving importance to regional parties is causing electoral defeat for the Congress. He said that Congress’s attitude of not accommodating regional parties in places where they think they are winning is becoming fatal for it. In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Gokhale, without naming any party, said that arrogance and the tendency to underestimate regional parties was leading to defeat.

The Trinamool Congress MP said, “This attitude leads to electoral defeat – if we think we are winning, we will not give importance to any regional party… but in the states where we are lagging, we will give importance to regional parties.” Must be given attention.” He said, “Arrogance, entitlement and underestimating regional parties are proving fatal.” Gokhale’s comment came a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) scored a ‘hat-trick’ of victory in Haryana by defeating the anti-incumbency wave and dashing the hopes of Congress’ comeback. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also raised questions on the election strategy of Congress.

The president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is keen on an alliance with the Congress in Haryana, said on Tuesday that the biggest lesson learned from the recent elections is that no one should be overconfident. Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D. Raja also said that Congress needs to introspect on the Haryana election results and take along all the ‘India’ alliance partners in the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Trinamool Congress, which was part of the ‘India’ block of opposition parties, had contested the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal alone, while the Congress had formed an alliance with the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and other left parties.

Advice from constituent parties of ‘India’: Congress should not ignore regional parties

After the crushing defeat of Congress in Haryana, several constituent parties of the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India) on Wednesday accused the main opposition party of ignoring them. He says that this attitude should not be repeated by Congress in future elections.

After the results of Haryana, Congress is facing maximum criticism from Shiv Sena (UBT). He said that Congress ignored other allies due to which this defeat occurred. Leaders of Trinamool Congress, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI) and some other parties also alleged that Congress did not work together with the constituents of the ‘India’ alliance which led to the defeat in Haryana.

Congress will contest elections in Maharashtra under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance and in Jharkhand in alliance with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rashtriya Janata Dal, which are also part of the ‘India’ alliance. Many opposition leaders accused the Congress of relying on regional parties where it is weak, but not forging alliances when it feels it is strong in a state.

Senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that Congress’s overconfidence is responsible for its defeat in Haryana.
He alleged that Congress depends on allies only in areas where it is weak, but ignores them in its strong areas.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi also said that it was a direct contest between BJP and Congress and Congress needs to introspect on its defeat. A senior TMC leader expressed similar views on the condition of anonymity. He said that Congress lost again when it had a direct contest with BJP and regional parties perform better in defeating BJP.

TMC is a part of the ‘India’ alliance, but after failing to reach an agreement with the Congress, it contested the Lok Sabha elections alone in West Bengal. Congress fought in alliance with the Left parties. The TMC leader said that parties like Shiv Sena (UBT), Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) and JMM should not be treated badly in the upcoming elections. Taking a dig at Congress without naming it, TMC MP Saket Gokhale in a post on ‘X’ said that its attitude of not accommodating regional parties in places where they think they can win is leading to electoral defeat.
