Arshdeep’s brilliant bowling restricted America to 110 runs for eight wickets

The Uncut

New York. Led by left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh (four wickets for nine runs in four overs), India restricted the US to 110 for eight in an ICC T20 World Cup Group A match here on Wednesday. This performance of Arshdeep is the best bowling performance by an Indian in the T20 World Cup. Earlier this record was in the name of Ravichandran Ashwin, who took four wickets for 11 runs against Australia in Mirpur in 2014.

Arshdeep got good support from Hardik Pandya who took two wickets for 14 runs in four overs. Axar Patel got one success. For America, Nitish Kumar contributed 27 runs in 23 balls while opener Steven Taylor contributed 24 runs in 30 balls. Batting has proved to be very difficult on this pitch so far, so this target can be challenging for India as well. The team that wins this match will secure its place in the Super Eight.

Arshdeep got India off to a great start by trapping Shayan Jahangir (0) leg before wicket on the first ball of the opening over and then dismissing Andreas Gaus (2 runs) on the last ball. Aaron Jones (11), who was leading the team in place of injured captain Monak Patel, showed aggression by hitting a six off Mohammad Siraj’s bouncer, but Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik bowled economical overs due to which America could score only 18 runs for two wickets in the power play. Jones got caught by Siraj off Hardik’s ball while trying to play another big shot.

Taylor, who was playing cautiously till now, hit a six against Shivam Dubey who came to bowl in the ninth over. He was bowled after hitting the second six of his innings against Akshar in the 12th over. Nitish then hit a spectacular straight six and a four against Hardik, while Corey Anderson (15), who has played for New Zealand, sent Akshar’s ball to the spectators. After conceding 32 runs in the last three overs, Indian captain Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Arshdeep and this bowler sent the aggressive batting Nitish to the pavilion. Siraj took a brilliant catch near the boundary.

Anderson hit a four against Bumrah while Harmeet Singh (10) hit a six to increase the run rate. Hardik gave a double blow to America by dismissing Anderson in the 17th over while Arshdeep dismissed Harmeet in the 18th over. Rishabh Pant took the catch of both of them behind the wicket. America’s century of runs was completed in this over with a run by Shadley van Schalkwyk (11 not out). He contributed to taking the score to 110 runs by hitting a four against Siraj in the last over.
