Attempts to destabilise popular Karnataka government, will not bow down to Centre: Congress

The Uncut

New Delhi. After the Karnataka High Court dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition in the land allotment case, the Congress on Tuesday alleged that the central government is trying to destabilize the popular government of the state and is continuously misusing the office of the Governor. The party’s organization general secretary KC Venugopal also said that the Congress is not going to bow down and it will fight both legally and politically against the nefarious intentions of the central government.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging the Governor’s sanction for an inquiry against him in the land allotment case. The Chief Minister had challenged the Governor Thawarchand Gehlot’s sanction for an inquiry against him in connection with alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 plots in a posh area by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to his wife.

Venugopal posted on ‘X’, “The continued misuse of the office of the Governor by the Modi-Shah regime is a matter of extreme concern for our constitutional democracy. Governors cannot interfere in the day-to-day functioning of state governments, they have to follow the Constitution in letter and spirit.” He alleged that the Karnataka Governor is trying his best to destabilise a popular, pro-people government led by a leader who has risen to the office of Chief Minister from a humble background.
Venugopal said such attempts only reflect the BJP’s tendency to control Karnataka from Delhi and are nothing but an attempt to force Karnataka to kneel before the “Delhi Darbar”.

He said, “We have a strong government that will listen only to the people, not Delhi. Our party will fight both legally and politically against the evil intentions of the central government.” Citing a statement by Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, he claimed that Ravi has taken off the mask of neutrality and is openly speaking in the voice of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Venugopal said, “Ravi should know that secularism is part of the basic tenets of the Constitution that he has sworn to protect. He should also know that no matter what his BJP-RSS bosses tell him, India’s rich multicultural ethos has survived for millennia and will not be destroyed no matter what the RSS tries to do.” He said, “History tells us that India and its people will always reject divisive politics and embrace inclusion.” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged, “The governors of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka are dancing to the tune of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the “self-proclaimed Chanakya”. He said this is outrageous and an attack on the Constitution of India.
