Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has supported the call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Wednesday over the Supreme Court’s decision on creamy layer in Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC-ST) reservation.
BSP President Mayawati said on the social media platform ‘X’, “BSP supports the call for Bharat Bandh, because there is a lot of anger and resentment among both the communities against the Supreme Court’s decision related to the creamy layer in the sub-classification of SC-ST on August 1, 2024, due to the anti-reservation conspiracy of BJP, Congress and other parties and their collusion to make it ineffective and ultimately end it.”
He said, “Regarding this, people of these classes will submit a memorandum to the government under ‘Bharat Bandh’ today and demand the abolition of the changes made in reservation through constitutional amendment, which is appealed to be done in a disciplined and peaceful manner without any violence.”
Mayawati wrote, “The constitutional right to reservation given to OBC (other backward classes) along with SC-ST is the result of the continuous struggle of the true messiah of these classes, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The BJP, Congress and other parties should not play with it by understanding its necessity and sensitivity.”
It is noteworthy that 21 organizations across the country have called for a Bharat Bandh on Wednesday against the Supreme Court’s August 1 decision on the creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. The organizations have opposed the decision and said that this will damage the basic principles of reservation.
