Baloda Bazaar. Four members of a family, including an 11-month-old infant, were killed on Thursday in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar-Bhatapara district on suspicion of witchcraft, police said. Police officials said the police have detained three suspects from the village – a man and his two sons – in connection with the murder and are questioning them.
He said that the incident took place at around 6 pm in Chharched village of Kasdol police station area and the deceased have been identified as Chaitram Kaivartya (47), his sisters – Jamuna (28) and Yashoda (30) and Jamuna’s 11-month-old son Yash. Officials said that the police have detained Ramnath Patle and his two sons in this case and their interrogation is going on.
Villagers told the police that Patel’s daughter had been ill for some time and her family members suspected that her illness was the result of black magic practiced by Chaitram’s mother. Officials said that it was learnt that the accused entered Chaitram’s house today and attacked them with sharp weapons and hammers, killing all four on the spot. They said that during the attack, Chaitram’s mother was not at home and had gone somewhere with her other son. They said that the police have registered a case and are investigating.
