New Delhi: The Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal has appealed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to ban the release of Kangana Ranaut-starrer ‘Emergency’ as it may incite communal tension.
BJP MP and actress Ranaut has played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. The film will be released in theatres on September 6. Shiromani Akali Dal’s Delhi unit president Paramjit Singh Sarna said in a letter to the censor board on Wednesday that erroneous historical facts can be seen in the recently released trailer of the film which not only misrepresents the Sikh community but also spreads hatred and social animosity.
He said that such a portrayal is not only misleading but also very insulting and damaging to the social fabric of Punjab and the entire country. Sarna said, “In view of the apprehensions of this film increasing communal tension and spreading misinformation, I request the CBFC to use its right to ban its release.” The film ‘Emergency’ is Kangana Ranaut’s first film to be released after being elected MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
