New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi met the Indian Chess Olympiad Champions and congratulated them on their victory. Had a special interaction with the players including stars like Divya Deshmukh, Tania Sachdev, D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa.
Meanwhile PM Modi enjoyed a friendly match between Arjun and Praggnanandhaa.
Prime Minister Modi hosted a special event in honour of the players at the PM residence. PM Modi felicitated the players of the men’s and women’s team and congratulated them on their historic victory. The men’s and women’s team created history on 22 September by winning the gold medal in the Chess Olympiad. The PM, who returned from his US tour, met the players.
Indian team created history
The men’s team of D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna dominated the tournament from start to finish and scored 21 points. The US team finished second. Gukesh gave a brilliant individual performance by scoring 9 out of 10. Erigaisi and Gujrathi registered impressive wins, while Praggnanandhaa led India to victory with his consistency in the crucial match.
The women’s team also showed its strength
After the victory of the men’s team, the Indian women’s team also won the gold medal. Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, Tania Sachdev and coach Abhijeet Kunte took India to new heights in the world of chess. In the final round, India defeated Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5, with Harika, Divya and Vantika winning while Vaishali got an important draw.
