BJP, AIADMK fighting Tamil Nadu bypolls through ‘dummy’ candidates: Chidambaram

The Uncut

Chennai. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) were fighting the July 10 bypoll to the Vikravandi seat in Tamil Nadu through a “pseudo” (Pattali Makkal Katchi) candidate.

He also said that the constituent parties of ‘India’ should ensure a landslide victory of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate. Targeting Tamil Nadu’s main opposition party AIADMK for boycotting the by-election, Chidambaram posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and said, “The decision of AIADMK to boycott the Vikravandi by-election proves that it has received instructions from the ‘top level’ to facilitate the victory of the National Democratic Alliance candidate (PMK). Both BJP and AIADMK are contesting the election through a pseudo (PMK) candidate. The constituent parties of India should ensure a landslide victory of the DMK candidate.”

The state’s main opposition party AIADMK had announced boycott of the by-election on June 15 and alleged that the ruling party DMK would spread ‘violence’ and not allow people to vote ‘freely’. At the same time, S. Ramadoss, founder of NDA constituent Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) in Tamil Nadu, announced that his party’s vice-president C. Anbumani Vikramandhi will contest the by-election. Before other parties, DMK had announced its candidate Anniyur Siva for the by-election.
