BJP cannot win alone in Maharashtra, but will emerge as the largest party after elections: Fadnavis

The Uncut

Mumbai. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot win the upcoming assembly elections in the state alone, but it will emerge as the largest party after the elections. Fadnavis said in a session of NDTV Marathi Conclave that one has to be practical regarding the ground reality. He stressed that the ruling ‘Mahayuti’ alliance constituents BJP, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) can fight the elections unitedly and win.

He said, “BJP cannot win the state (assembly elections) alone, but it is also true that we have the maximum seats and the highest vote percentage. After the elections, BJP will emerge as the largest party in the state. Only unification of votes of all three parties can make us victorious.” When asked about some BJP leaders being angry over not getting tickets and fearing rebellion, Fadnavis said, “No party can say that it wants votes of other parties, but it is ready to compromise on seat sharing.” Not ready. I feel sad for some of our aspiring contenders who were not given a chance to contest the elections this time.” He said in a light tone that the current situation in the state is such that many films are being made and every aspiring actor can get a lead role.

BJP has so far announced candidates for 121 out of 288 seats in the state assembly. Fadnavis expressed confidence that BJP will form government in Maharashtra with the help of Shiv Sena, NCP and Republican Party of India. Regarding the impact of the general elections on the assembly elections, Fadnavis claimed that for the first time in Maharashtra, ‘Vote Jihad’ was witnessed during the Lok Sabha elections, in which the Mahayuti alliance was able to win only 17 out of 48 seats in the state; But it will have no impact in the assembly elections.

He said, “In Dhule Lok Sabha constituency, our candidate was ahead in five assembly constituencies, but due to the voting in Malegaon-Central assembly constituency, we had to face defeat. “However, this will not work in the assembly elections, because our candidates will definitely win on those five seats.” Voting for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will be held on November 20, while the counting of votes will be done on November 23.
