BJP leaders are ‘cut off’ from the public: Priyanka Gandhi

The Uncut

Wayanad. Congress general secretary and UDF candidate in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday intensified her criticism of the BJP-led central government, alleging that its leaders are “cut off” from the people. Addressing a street meeting in Niketi area, he recalled his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her close association with tribal communities.

Priyanka said, “Those of you who are older may remember my grandmother Indira Gandhi’s deep respect and connection with the tribal people of India.” He said that Indira Gandhi had always emphasized on the connection of tribal people with water, forests and land. He said, “With this understanding, Indira Gandhi did a lot for the rights of the tribal people.” Highlighting the UPA government’s initiatives like Forest Rights Act, MNREGA and Right to Education, Priyanka said that their aim is to help the poorest of the poor.

He alleged that BJP’s policies benefit only a few people and the party is attacking these rights through its “negative” politics. “BJP leaders are cut off from the public,” he alleged. Priyanka started her speech in Malayalam and greeted the people present. The by-election is being held here due to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi vacating the Wayanad seat after winning from Rae Bareli constituency in the general elections. Voting on this seat will be held on November 13.
