Bhaderwah/Jammu. A top Border Security Force (BSF) official on Tuesday said that anti-infiltration measures have been taken along the borders to ensure that terrorists do not infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir and disrupt the assembly elections. BSF, Jammu Frontier Inspector General DK Bora was talking to reporters in Bhaderwah area of Doda district. A total of 24 assembly seats in six other districts along with Doda district in south Kashmir and Chenab Valley region of Jammu are scheduled to go to polls on September 18 in the first phase.
The BSF officer said, “The borders are completely safe as the BSF has taken all necessary anti-infiltration measures in collaboration with the concerned agencies including the police. I want to assure everyone that no such activity (infiltration of terrorists from across the border) will be allowed during the election process.” He said that the BSF is capable of dealing with any situation and will play its role in conducting free and fair elections.
Bora said, “BSF is a capable force and you will find that our soldiers are deployed more in difficult areas because they are capable of dealing with any kind of situation and doing their job bravely. BSF is deployed here (in Chenab Valley) to conduct elections safely.” Referring to the recent terrorist incidents in Doda and Kishtwar districts, the BSF officer said that the commanders present at the ground level are aware of some incidents and are conducting their activities in a rational manner to make the entire area safe and “I hope that no untoward incident will happen during the elections.”
Earlier, the BSF IG reviewed election security in a meeting with 20 commanding officers of the force. BSF troops are deployed in all three districts. He recently reported the presence of terrorists in the area. He said, “Their (terrorists) number is not high but since there is a huge dense forest in the area, they are getting a chance to hide.” He asked the jawans to remain alert and foil any conspiracy of the terrorists.
