New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi took oath as Chief Minister on Saturday evening. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena administered the oath of Chief Minister to Atishi at Raj Niwas. With this, she has become the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Congress leader Sheila Dixit and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.
After being released from jail in the liquor policy case, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced his resignation from the post of CM. His resignation was accepted on Friday night. Along with this, Atishi was appointed to the post of CM. Let us tell you that Atishi is considered to be a close confidant of former CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Earlier, Atishi was elected the leader of the legislative party in the AAP meeting. After being elected the leader of the legislative party, Atishi had requested the Lieutenant Governor to fix a date for her swearing in as CM.
. In the year 2023, Atishi took over as the Education Minister after Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia went to jail in the liquor policy case. She has also handled the departments of Finance, Revenue, PWD, Electricity, Services, Women and Child Development as a minister in the Delhi Cabinet.
Grew up and got education in Delhi
Atishi was born on 8 June 1981. She was born to Vijay Singh, a professor at Delhi University, and Tripta Wahi. She was born and brought up in Delhi. After schooling from The Springdales School and graduation from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, she did her master’s degree in history from Oxford. Her parents were influenced by Marx. Hence her middle name was ‘Marlena’. It is a combination of Marx and Lenin, but Atishi dropped ‘Marlena’ from her name before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
