BSNL’s indigenous 4G technology infrastructure is a national pride: Scindia

The Uncut

New Delhi. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said the entire 4G technology stack of state-run BSNL should be viewed as a matter of national pride as the telecom corporation is treading the difficult path of adopting indigenous products instead of opting for existing technologies.

The minister declined to give any specific timeline for the commercial launch of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) 4G services. However, he said a project management unit was being set up to set daily targets and he would personally monitor the targets. He vowed that results would be visible “as soon as possible”.

Scindia said, “All I can promise you is that Tejas, BSNL, TCS, CDOT as well as all our companies are coming together to form a PMU and that PMU will set daily targets, not weekly or monthly, and those targets will be monitored by me and the Telecom Secretary.” He said it is important to think about BSNL’s 4G efforts with a sense of national pride.

“It was easy for BSNL to adopt existing technologies and do what others are doing, but our Prime Minister has said that India should not only be a supplier of services, but we should also be a supplier of products, so you (BSNL) chose the difficult path of developing your 4G stack in India,” the minister said on the sidelines of an event to inform about the India Mobile Congress 2024 to be held in October.
