Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials on Monday began the second round of polygraph test of former principal Sandip Ghosh and five others in connection with the investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH). According to an official, Ghosh’s statements during questioning over the last 10 days did not show any coherence, forcing the officials to conduct another round of polygraph test. The CBI had conducted lie detector tests on Ghosh and five others on Saturday.
The official said that in connection with the investigation of alleged financial irregularities in RGKMCH, the interrogation of former principal of the institute Sandeep Ghosh and former medical superintendent and deputy principal Sanjay Vashisht was started on Monday. CBI officials had searched Ghosh’s Beliaghata residence on Sunday. Ghosh reached the agency’s office in Salt Lake on Monday morning with files and documents. According to the official, Vashisht’s house was also raided by CBI officials. Vashisht appeared before the officials of the central agency at Nizam Palace. The official said that a professor of the Forensic Medicine Department was also questioned at the same office.
The official told PTI-language, “After yesterday’s search operation, we have many questions for them.” The CBI on Sunday carried out simultaneous searches at the premises of Ghosh, Vasisht and 13 others in and around Kolkata in connection with its investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH).
The CBI’s anti-corruption unit also raided the offices and residences of some people who supplied material for patient care.
According to the complaint filed by former deputy superintendent of RGKMCH Akhtar Ali, Ghosh, during his tenure as the principal of the hospital, along with his associates, had issued tenders for construction of food stalls, cafes and canteens etc. without the permission of the health department and the college council. According to the official, initial investigation revealed that three businessmen had received illegal contracts.
