Gariaband. A special initiative has been taken by the Election Commission of India to ensure participation of all voters in the Lok Sabha General Election 2024. In this sequence, keeping in mind that senior citizens above 85 years of age and voters with more than 40 percent disability should not face any kind of problem in reaching the polling booth, the Commission is providing door to door voting facilities to such voters. Voting is being conducted through postal ballot.

Let us tell you that the senior citizens and disabled people of the district are also enthusiastically discharging their responsibilities by exercising their franchise in this great festival of democracy and are appreciating this arrangement of the Commission. The Election Commission provided the facility of home voting for the elderly above 85 years of age and the disabled for the first time in the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024. Voting will be held in the second phase in the district on April 26.

In this process, polling parties went door-to-door and got the elderly and disabled voters above 85 years of age to vote. Besides, video recording was also done for fair and free voting. Voters took advantage of home voting with full enthusiasm and praised this initiative of the Election Commission. He said that the facility of home voting provided by the Election Commission to the elderly and specially abled people is really very comfortable and convenient. He appreciated this innovation of the Commission.

Elderly people and disabled people cast their vote at home

98 year old Babunandan Jaiswal, Hirantin Sinha, Munnabai Dhruv of village Chhura cast their vote at home through postal ballot. Jalwantin Bai of Fingeshwar, Khageshwar Prasad Behera of village Temra, Divyang Deepak Sahu of village Kopra, Patiram Jagat of Gariaband, Rupautin Bai of village Sadak Parsuli, Suniti Bai Som of village Kochvay, Qutubuddin of village Piprahatta, Krishna Bai Nirmalkar of Kasekera. Register your presence in building democracy by voting. This is good news for Gariaband district administration. The hard work done to increase their voting is visible on the ground.

After getting the facility of home voting, Suniti Bai Som of village Kochvay, Ganesh Ram Sahu of Chhura expressed his happiness and thanked him. Due to the facilities provided by the Election Commission for senior citizens to vote at home, they have been able to cast their vote today. Senior citizens said that earlier they had been going to the polling booth and casting their votes. But due to his old age, going to the polling booth had become a challenge.

14554 voters above 85 years of age and 6290 disabled voters in the district

As per the instructions of Collector and District Election Officer Deepak Kumar Aggarwal and under the guidance of District Panchayat CEO Rita Yadav and through media, voter awareness program is being continuously promoted. Due to which old and disabled voters have become aware about home voting and voting. It is noteworthy that there are 14554 voters above 85 years of age and 6290 disabled voters in the district. 56 voters had given consent letter for home voting. On this, the officers and employees engaged in election work for home voting today went to their homes and got the voting done as per their convenience. The remaining voters asked to go to the polling station on the day of voting and exercise their franchise.
