Sanjay Manikpuri, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. A case of evasion of stamp duty for registration of land has come to light in Saraipali area in the month of December. When the matter came to light, the department officials tried to avoid giving vague answers. After the complaint to the SDM, there is panic among the officers regarding the matter.

Actually, the land owner had sold two acres of his land in Saraipali area. When he got his land registered, he was informed that there were no trees of various types including Saja, Bhirha, Sal, Mahua, Tendu etc. on that land. Before registering, the registrar got the spot verified from the Patwari of the concerned area. But the verification report did not show any trees at the spot. If the trees were shown on the spot for registration, then stamp duty of around Rs 5,000 per tree would have to be deposited. Because of hiding the tree, stop fee was not paid.

If sources are to be believed, several dozen trees are present at the spot. Some people have also brought this matter to the notice of the SDM office. The manner in which the registration was done by hiding the trees from the land has caused loss to the government exchequer. In this matter, the SDM said that it will be investigated and a reply will be taken from the registrar in this regard.
