Chhattisgarh: Food Safety Department raids illegal sweet factory

Rajnandgaon: Based on the complaint received by the officials of the Food and Drug Administration Department, a raid was conducted on an illegally operated sweet and Sonpapdi manufacturing factory at Kuan Chowk Nandai in Rajnandgaon city. During this, extensive irregularities and lack of cleanliness and documents were found in the firm. During the investigation, the firm was also found to be lacking a valid food license.

Sonpapdi, coconut Mysore Pak, oil, refined flour and other food items being manufactured amidst chaos were seized and samples were taken for quality testing. Loose Sonpapdi and coconut Mysore Pak worth around 67 thousand rupees were seized and confiscated. The food items being manufactured and stored in the factory were probably being prepared to be sold during the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival, but due to the department’s action this plan could not be completed.

The operator of the firm has been given strict instructions to trade with valid documents, proper cleanliness and quality food items as per the rules. The operator of the firm has voluntarily stopped production till further action. The Food Safety Department has appealed to all the food traders of the district to trade quality food items with valid documents.
