Purushottam Patra, Gariaband. So that Naxalites could not influence the elections and the inducement material should not be crossed, hence Dharamgarh SDOP of Odisha along with Mainpur SDOP made a strategy to conduct peaceful elections. A meeting was held with border police station in-charges in Devbhog to discuss prevention of criminal activities.

Across the border, Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are to be held simultaneously in the state of Odisha on 13 May. Lok Sabha voting is to be held in the state on 26th April. There is a possibility of many activities affecting the elections taking place in both the states. Therefore, now Dharamgarh sub-division and Mainpur sub-division police of Kalahandi district have made a joint strategy to deal with this. An effective meeting was held with the border police station in-charges of both the states under the leadership of Mainpur SDOP Baji Lal Singh and Dharamgarh SDOP Manoj Behera in Devbhog police station premises.

In the meeting, possible activities affecting the elections were discussed point by point. Also a policy was made to deal with it. The police will both list the people involved in illegal activities and identify the villages. There will also be a joint WhatsApp group of police officers of both the states, in which efforts will be made to exchange information and take immediate action. The election date is different in both the states. In such a situation, the liquor shops on both ends of the pre-poll border should remain closed before the election date, for this a decision has been taken to correspond with the Commission through top officials.

Different concerns of both the states, dealing with it is no less than a challenge.

Cheap liquor of Odisha can be consumed in Mainpur division. There is a huge difference between the liquor policy of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Therefore, compared to the government liquor available here, Odisha's liquor is available at 20 to 25 percent lower price. From Mahua pouch packed raw liquor to premier English liquor and beer of renowned companies is also easily available. Except the western region, the border of Odisha is within 5 to 8 km from all three ends. Apart from the main roads, more than 50 such unpaved and small roads have been built here, due to which stopping the movement is no less than a challenge for the police. In such a situation, apart from the roads, the police will keep an eye on the people engaged in work and will try to prevent illegal liquor as well as other tempting items from coming in.

The border of Naxalite affected district is why Dharamgarh police is worried

Gariaband is a Naxal affected district. Odisha has not been able to forget the echo of the Naxalite blast during the assembly elections. According to the current intelligence report in Kalahandi, since the month of February, the activity of 40 female and 30 male uniformed Naxalites has increased through Mainpur Sub Division area in their Amapani police station area. Naxalites are also said to be from Mainpur Division Committee. Since there will be a lot of hustle and bustle of assembly elections along with Lok Sabha elections in Odisha. Apart from Naxalite activity, the act of inducement to influence elections can be easily carried out from the Chhattisgarh border area where livelihood is linked. Dealing with this is no less than a challenge for Dharamgarh Police. Apart from checking the vehicles in the border area, Odisha Police has already started monitoring with a third eye.
