Raigarh: Police in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district have arrested six people for allegedly gang-raping a 27-year-old tribal girl on Raksha Bandhan, police officials said on Wednesday.

Six people, including Rahul Chauhan, have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a tribal girl in Pusour police station area of ​​Raigarh, officials said.

He said that as per the victim’s complaint, on Monday, in the Pusaur police station area, 20 km from the district headquarters, when the victim was on her way to attend a fair in the village after celebrating Raksha Bandhan, the accused stopped her on the way and took her to the bank of a pond.

According to the complaint, the accused gang-raped the girl by threatening to kill her.
Officials said that on Tuesday the victim reached the police station and informed the police about the incident, after which six accused including Rahul Chauhan were arrested.

Police have registered a case against the accused in connection with the incident and started investigation under sections 70(1) (gangrape) and 351(2) (assault or criminal force to person to do any act by threatening to insult the modesty of any person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), officials said.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel termed the case serious and demanded that the culprits be arrested and the victim be given protection. Baghel wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “This incident of gang rape in Pusaur block of Raigarh is very serious. The culprits should be arrested immediately and the victim should be given protection till they are punished. (The victim) should also be provided all possible help including medical help.”
