Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday congratulated shooter Abhinav Bindra on receiving the Olympic Order for his outstanding contribution to the Olympic Movement. The Chief Minister’s Office wrote on the ‘X’, “Hope he continues to inspire future generations to take an active role in sports.”
The International Olympic Committee Executive Board informed Bindra that he has been conferred the Olympic Order and the award ceremony will be held on August 10 during the 142nd Session of the IOC in Paris. Assam government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Assam government to set up two high performance sports training and rehabilitation centers in Guwahati and Jorhat.
The state government has also signed an MoU to implement the Olympic Value Education Programme (OVEP) in 250 government and private schools in Guwahati. It aims to tackle problems like changing lifestyle, lack of concentration and withdrawal of children from school.
