Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over Yechury’s demise

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expressed grief over the demise of senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, calling it a loss to Indian politics. She offered her condolences to Yechury’s family, friends and party colleagues.

“Saddened to hear of Sitaram Yechury’s demise. I knew him as a senior parliamentarian and his demise is a loss to national politics. I offer my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” Banerjee wrote in a post on ‘X’.

Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee said in a post on ‘X’, “Saddened to hear about the demise of senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury. Though our political ideologies were different, I had the privilege of interacting with him in many opposition meetings in the last few years.”

He said, “Yechury’s simplicity, profound understanding of public policy and his deep insight into parliamentary matters were truly remarkable. My condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.” Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury died on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here at the age of 72. He was ill for a long time.
