China becomes India’s largest source of imports

New Delhi. China has emerged as India’s top import source during April-September this year. During this period, a total of $56.29 billion worth of imports were made from China. During the same period, America has emerged as the top export destination for the country. Exports to America increased by 5.62 percent to $40.38 billion. Imports from China have increased by 11.5 percent during the first half of the current financial year. In the same period of the last financial year, imports were 50.48 billion dollars.

According to the data, the top 10 sources of imports into India during this period were China, Russia, United Arab Emirates, America, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, South Korea, Switzerland and Singapore. During April-September in the current financial year, imports from Russia increased to $ 32.18 billion, which was $ 30.43 billion in the same period a year ago. Similarly, imports from UAE increased to $31.46 billion in the period under review. In the first half of the last financial year it was $20.70 billion.

During this period, the country’s top 10 export destinations were the US, UAE, Netherlands, UK, China, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Germany and South Africa. Exports to UAE increased to $17.24 billion during April-September in the current financial year, which was $15.47 billion in the same period a year ago. Similarly, exports to China increased to $6.91 billion in the period under review, which was $7.63 billion a year ago during April-September in 2023-24.

America was India’s largest trading partner in 2023-24. After that came China. China was India’s top trading partner in 2013-14 to 2017-18 and 2020-21. Before China, the UAE was the country’s largest trading partner. America was the largest trading partner in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
