CISF deployed 150 personnel to protect Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital

The Uncut

New Delhi. Following the Supreme Court order, about 150 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel are being deployed at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Official sources gave this information on Wednesday. A day after the Supreme Court order, the Union Home Ministry had written a letter to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal for the deployment of CISF in Kolkata’s government hospital. Sources said that after this the decision to deploy CISF was taken.

Earlier in the day, a CISF team led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) level officer inspected the hospital where a 31-year-old doctor was allegedly raped and murdered a few days ago. Sources said the force will also guard the resident doctor’s hostel. The woman doctor’s body was found in the hospital auditorium on the morning of August 9. An outsider who was a frequent visitor to the hospital premises was arrested on August 10 in connection with the case.

Since this incident, medical services have been affected across the country and hundreds of doctors are on strike under the banner of various organizations and demanding security for doctors. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court constituted a 10-member National Task Force (NTF) to develop a national protocol to ensure the safety and facilities of doctors and health professionals. The apex court also ordered the deployment of CISF in R.G. Kar Hospital to provide security to doctors.
