Comments against Captain Anshuman’s wife: NCW asks Delhi Police to take action

The Uncut

New Delhi. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the Delhi Police to take immediate action against a man from the national capital for making ‘indecent and derogatory comments’ online against the wife of Captain Anshuman Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra. In a letter issued on Monday, the commission referred to specific legal provisions. These include Section 79 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and Section 67 of the Information and Technology (IT) Act, 2000.

This section of the BNS provides for punishment for an act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, while the said section of the IT Act deals with punishment for publishing or disseminating obscene material in electronic form.
The letter outlines the penalties given under these laws. It mentions that for these crimes, first-time offenders are liable to be imprisoned for up to three years and fined, and repeat offenders are liable to face more severe punishment.

The Commission has asked the Delhi Police to immediately register an FIR against the said person and arrest him as early as possible.
The Commission has also demanded a fair and timely investigation into the matter and has requested for a detailed action report within three days.
