New Delhi. Congress raised ‘serious issues’ related to Maharashtra Assembly elections with the Election Commission on Tuesday and urged that detailed data be released to ensure transparency and remove distrust. A delegation of party leaders reached the Commission on Tuesday evening and presented point-wise issues on behalf of the party. This delegation includes Congress General Secretary Mukul Wasnik, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Nana Patole, senior leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi and some other leaders.
The Congress on Friday approached the Election Commission over “serious discrepancies” related to data in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and sought a detailed reply. The party also requested through a memorandum that the Commission should give its leaders an opportunity to meet, so that they can raise these ‘discrepancies’ and some other issues related to this assembly election. After this, the Commission had given time to Congress till December 3.
After presenting his views before the Commission, Singhvi told reporters, “We have presented our views in detail. Data should have been released on serious issues.” According to him, “The first point is that the names of lakhs of people have been removed from the voter list. Regarding this, we said that detailed data is needed so that it can be known why and how the names have been removed.”
Singhvi said that the second issue was the addition of new names to the voter list, as about 47 lakh names have been added after the Lok Sabha elections. He said, “The third issue is to increase the vote percentage to seven percent after voting. We have asked for data for this, because seven percent votes can change the entire game of elections. Another point is that there are a total of 118 assembly constituencies, where there has been an increase of up to 25 thousand compared to the Lok Sabha elections. “BJP and its allies have won in most of these areas.” Singhvi said, “We hope to get an answer which will be transparent and remove mistrust.”
