Lucknow. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Tuesday attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his comments on ending reservation and said that Gandhi’s statement clearly shows that his party has been conspiring to end reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) for years.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, while interacting with students at Georgetown University in America, on the question of how long reservation will continue in India, said that the Congress Party will think about ending reservation only when there will be fairness in terms of reservation in India, but it is not so right now. Mayawati, while making a series of comments on the social media platform ‘X’, sharply criticized this statement of Rahul.
She said, “While being in power for a long time at the center, the Congress party-led government did not implement OBC reservation nor did it conduct caste census in the country. Now this party is dreaming of coming to power under the guise of this (caste census). Beware of this drama of theirs which will never be able to conduct caste census in future.” Mayawati said, “Now beware of this drama of the supreme leader of the Congress party, Shri Rahul Gandhi, in which he has said abroad that when India will be in a better condition, we will end the reservation of SC, ST, OBC. It is clear from this that Congress has been conspiring to end their reservation for years.”
He said, “People of these classes should be cautious of this dangerous statement given by Congress leader Shri Rahul Gandhi, because as soon as this party comes to power at the center, it will definitely end their reservation under the pretext of this statement. These people must be cautious of this party which pretends to save the Constitution and reservation.” The BSP chief said, “The truth is that Congress has been anti-reservation from the very beginning. When the reservation quota was not fulfilled in the government led by it at the center, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar resigned from the post of Law Minister because of not getting justice to the people of this class (SC, ST, OBC) from this party. People should be careful.”
He said, “Overall, until casteism is completely eradicated from the country, despite the situation in India being relatively better, the social, economic and educational condition of the people of these classes is not going to improve. Therefore, it is necessary for the correct constitutional system of reservation to continue until casteism is completely eradicated.” Congress and opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the students at the prestigious Georgetown University of America, on the question of how long reservation will continue in India, said, “When there will be fairness in India (in terms of reservation), then we will think about ending reservation. Right now India is not a fair place for this.”
Rahul said, “When you look at the financial figures, tribals get 10 paise out of Rs 100. Dalits get five rupees out of Rs 100 and other backward class (OBC) people also get almost the same amount. The truth is that they are not getting proper participation.”
